Revamping Your Laundry Room on a Tight Budget is possible.

The laundry room or area is one of the most used spaces in our homes, and it is essential to make it functional and visually appealing. However, it is easy to overlook this space when decorating and organizing. This blog post will share how I transformed my laundry area for under $100.

Here is what my laundry space used to look like.

For context, we moved into a new townhome in 2023, and I originally planned to have our washer and dryer sit side by side. We made sure to measure everything, but the washer and dryer did not work next to each other because the doors were too big, so we had no other option but to stack them. This was not a part of my original vision, and I did not love how it looked. I had no idea what to do with the space, so I left it empty with a little rolling cart of all our laundry supplies. I was not a fan of the laundry area in our old house, so I was looking forward to a fresh space to work with. After months of doing nothing to the space, I finally went to my favorite place (Pinterest) and found a solution to make our laundry area more aesthetically pleasing and functional.

This was the inspiration picture I found that sparked the idea for my space.

Firstly, I decluttered the space by removing all unnecessary items. I got rid of the rolling cart and all the unnecessary items that somehow ended up in the space. For me, it wasn’t much to get rid of, thankfully, but this step is crucial in maximizing the space and making it more organized.

To make the space more functional, I decided on getting a bookshelf. I thought about creating a built-in system or having floating shelves, but I wanted a simple, affordable, quick, and relatively easy solution. We ran to Target, purchased a $40 Room Essentials bookshelf my wonderful husband built, and installed it next to the washer and dryer. This allowed me to store all of our laundry essentials in a convenient location with little hassle. It was tricky for my husband to fit the shelf, but he did it quickly.

I also purchased some large jars and stackable acrylic drawers to organize and store items like detergent pods, dryer sheets, scent beads, and dryer balls.

Lastly, I added some decorative elements to the space. Luckily, I could shop our home for some extra little plants and baskets to add to the space. Most of the additional decor is from Target and Homegoods.

Total Cost for this Makeover

Bookshelf- $40

Glass Jars- $25.47

Stackable Storage Drawers- $21.24

Grand total- 86.71

*I did not include the costs for restocking my laundry items like detergent, scent beads, and dryer sheets*

I love that I still have room to grow and the ability to switch things up. Revamping and organizing our laundry space was a quick and easy project for us, only taking an evening to complete. With some creativity and elbow grease, it is possible to transform your laundry area for just $100. By decluttering, installing shelves, and adding some decorative elements, you can create a functional and visually appealing space that you will enjoy using.

If you were inspired to revamp your laundry space or have already, I'd love to hear about it in the comments!
